You are not permitted to take your rental car on a ferry as it will void the insurance. Any excess reduction products you have purchased from the car rental company will not be valid. There are some exceptions however. Thrifty allows vehicles picked up in Adelaide to visit Kangaroo Island, and with written authority Budget vehicles can travel to Bruny Island.
